Obie Trice Dropped From Shady/Interscope - Confirmed In New Track

Posted on June 29, 2008 in News

Well, what do you know… It turns out our anonymous tipster was right! As our source told us earlier this week, it appears that Obie Trice has been dropped from Shady/Interscope and is now a free agent.

We’re working hard to get more details on this, but for now, check out the track below…

Feels good for us to be the first to break news; this is just the beginning, people!

Jay-Z Takes Shots At Noel Gallagher In His Opening Glastonbury Performance

Posted on June 29, 2008 in News

Glastonbury headliner Jay-Z took the stage last night and performed in front of over 100,000 people - and he opend up with a sly shot to Noel Gallagher, who stated that it was a disgrace that Hip-Hop was being played at Glastonbury. The entire set by Jay was amazing, with his live band mixing in classic rock riffs in to his already hard hitting beats.

So far this is all that has been uploaded from Hov’s performance, but it’s likely more will be uploaded throughout the day.

Nas ‘N’ Leaks Galore - Sly Fox, Fried Chicken, Tracklist

Posted on June 28, 2008 in News

We’re not sure what happened over the past day or so, but a hurricane of new Nas information, along with two new joints, has leaked.

The first new leaked track is entitled “Sly Fox” and is produced by Stic.man (of rap group Dead Prez) - the track has Nas firing off at the Fox news network, “propaganda, visual cancer” Nas rhymes over the rock influenced beat.

The second leaked track, which I feel is slightly stronger than the previous (not that Sly Fox isn’t a solid track - it is!) is Fried Chicken with an appearance from fellow NY rapper Busta Rhymes. The track has Nas and Busta comparing Fried Chicken to women, and is a very nice track despite the short length. The track is produced by Mark Ronson, one of my favorite producers.

And finally, a tracklist for Nas’s “untitled” or “N” album was also leaked; there is no confirmation that this is indeed the final tracklist, but it looks pretty good - though “Be A Nigger Too” is missing. Hmm.

01. Queens Get The Money (Produced by Jay Electronica)
02. You Can’t Stop Us Now (feat. Eban Thomas of The Stylistics & The Last Poets) (Produced by Salaam Remi)
03. Breathe (Produced by J. Myers & Dustin Moore)
04. Make The World Go Round (feat. Chris Brown & The Game) (Co-produced by Cool & Dre & The Game)
05. Hero (feat. Keri Hilson) (Produced by Polow Da Don)
06. America (Produced by Stargate)
07. Sly Fox (Produced by stic.man of Dead Prez)
08. Testify (Produced by Mark Batson)
09. N.I.G.G.E.R. (The Slave And The Master) (Produced by DJ Toomp)
10. Untitled (Produced by stic.man of Dead Prez)
11. Fried Chicken (feat. Busta Rhymes) (Produced by Mark Ronson)
12. Project Roach (feat. The Last Poets) (Produced by Eric Hudson)
13. Ya’ll My Niggas (Produced by J. Myers)
14. We’re Not Alone (feat. Mykel) (Produced by stic.man of Dead Prez)
15. Black President (feat. Johnny Polygon) (Produced by DJ Green Lantern)

It’s a shame that Jay-Z is not present for the album, but I can’t wait for the album regardless. Roll on July 16th - let’s hope this doesn’t get delayed again.

Jay-Z Gets Interviewed By Jonathan Ross In the UK

Posted on June 28, 2008 in News

This is a fresh interview with Hov which aired last night in the UK. The hip-hop juggernaut was interviewed by celebrity host Jonathon Ross on his show, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. Jay speaks on his controversial position as the headliner of Glastonbury, married life with Beyonce, and a bunch of other stuff. It’s worth a watch! Part two is below.

Barak Obama Is My Homeboy Shirt - Well, I’d Rock It

Posted on June 28, 2008 in All Urban Wear, T-Shirt

Barak Obama Is My Homeboy Shirt

You probably already know who we’re rooting for in the presidential campaign. Besides, who the fuck wants a shirt that says “John McCain Is My Homeboy.” Exactly. Nobody.

Hillary is gone, John McCain is a fag, and Ron Paul is, well… Ron Paul. It looks like Obama is going to win, so why not rock this tee? We sure would.

Dre’s Detoxing Almost Done According To Snoop Dogg

Posted on June 27, 2008 in News

It’s been over 7 years since Dr Dre’s last album dropped, and we’ve been anticipating Detox for almost 5. It’s been a bumpy ride, but it looks like we’re finally going to see the doctors latest creation this year; at least according to Snoop. He was caught leaving a studio where he had apparently recorded a verse for Dre, and when quizzed about the album Snoop revealed the following:

That record is real - it’s coming. You know me, I was starting to doubt it myself and then I went up in there and he played so much music for me… it knocked my head off.

He continued to state that Detox was now finished, and Dre was in the process of selecting the final tracks for the album.

It was also revealed that super-producer Dr. Dre will also be producing Snoop’s next album, though no title or other information was mentioned.

Rumor: Obie Trice Dropped From Shady/Interscope?

Posted on June 26, 2008 in News

Early this morning we received an email from an anonymous tipster who is claiming to be close friends with Shady/Aftermath artist Bishop Lamont, and word has it that labelmate Obie Trice (signed to Shady/Interscope) has been dropped off of the label for unknown reasons.

Obie was suppose to be releasing his third album Bottom’s Up this year.

Our source says that Obie will shortly be leaking a track confirming what has happened - we’ll keep you up to date if that actually happens.

Update: Yep, our source was correct; see here.

Update 2: Official statement from Shady

Kanye Responds To The Bonnaroo Controversy

Posted on June 25, 2008 in News

After last weeks controversy and hate over Kanye’s late performance at the Bonnaroo festival, Kanye has finally stepped up and responded via his blog.

If you’ve not been keeping up with the news lately, in brief: Kanye was suppose to be performing at 2.45am but did not emerge on stage until 4.25am. This was partly due to Pearl Jam extending their set for an hour, but even after that, ‘Ye didn’t show for another two hours.

So, Kanye seems to have noticed their was a huge amount of negative press around the whole thing (he even screenshotted a Digg article about the whole thing) and proceeded to write:

I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall… Why???? I understand if people don’t like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life. This is the most offended I’ve ever been… this is the maddest I ever will be. I’m typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!! Call me any name you want…. arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro, fag whatever you can think of…. BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL! NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL! THIS SHOWS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO BE GOOD AT SOMETHING THERE WILL BE PEOPLE THERE TO LIE ABOUT YOU AND BRING YOU DOWN! LIKE WAYNE SAYS PLEASE DON’T SHOOT ME DOWN CAUSE I’M FLYING! I’M FUCKING HURT BY THIS ONE. ALL I CARE ABOUT ARE THE FANS. JUST SAY THIS OUT LOUD IN A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE, “KANYE DOESN’T CARE ABOUT GIVING A GOOD PERFORMANCE.” CAN ANYONE HONESTLY SAY THAT ????????? HAS ANYONE EVEN TAKEN THE TIME TO AT LEAST DO THE MATH??? BONNAROO SHOULD HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT IN MY DEFENSE BUT SINCE THEY HAVEN’T LET’S BREAK DOWN THE WALLS ON THIS TRUMAN SHOW AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY OCCURRED!!! FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL. ONE DAY THEY WOULD SAY YES… WE’D SEND THEM OUR SPECS THEN THEY THEY’D SAY OK… THEN THEY WOULD SEND SPECS BACK THAT DIDN’T FIT THE STAGE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH FUCKING IDIOTS WHO DIDN’T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY. THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE … I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS, IT’S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS! MY PEOPLE WORKED OUT A COMPROMISED STAGE PLOT AND A 3AM TIME SLOT AND I AGREED. FAST FOWARD TO THE DAY OF THE SHOW. MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN’T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE. PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR
LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT THAT POINT WE’RE RACING AGAINST THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, ” IT WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!” I SAY I HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I HIT THE STAGE AND PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWING SHIT ON THE STAGE AND HAD ACTUALLY HIT THE JANE SCREEN WITH, I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY FUCKING SCREEN. REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A SHORTY AND WATER WOULD HIT THE TV?????? WHEN I GOT 2 “THROUGH THE WIRE” I STEPPED ON THE FRONT PART OF MY STAGE AND THERE WAS SO MUCH LIQUID ON THE STAGE I COULDN’T MOVE WITHOUT SLIPPING. I HAD TO ADJUST MY WHOLE PERFORMANCE STYLE BECAUSE OF IT. A FEW MORE SONGS IN AND THE SONG WAS ON IT’S WAY UP.. I CUT A FEW SONGS FROM THE SET BECAUSE I WANTED PEOPLE 2 EXPERIENCE STRONGER WHILE THERE WAS STILL SOME DARKNESS TO PERFORM IT IN. I’VE STRUGGLED WITH STRONGER FROM IT’S CONCEPTION. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER WHEN I CANCELED SOME TV APPEARANCES. IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN’T WANT TO PERFORM STRONGER IN THE DAYTIME. ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE GLOW TOUR CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE IT PROPERLY. IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN’T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT’S GREATEST FORM… BY THE TIME I GOT TO STRONGER IT WAS DAYTIME AND IT BROKE MY HEART. I’M SORRY TO EVERYONE THAT I DIDN’T HAVE THE ABILITY 2 GIVE THE PERFORMANCE I WANTED TO. I’M SORRY… SOMETIMES I GO 2, 3 DAYS W/O SLEEP WORKING ON MY PERFORMANCE… I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT… HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF… CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!!!

Wow, quite a mouth full we know. Even though I still think he should have stepped out and apologized to the crowd for the delay, I do feel somewhat sorry for Kanye. The whole Urban Lookout team attended his Manchester Glow In The Dark tour, and all of his performances were exceptional. You can see the post on his blog here.

We’ll see what the media/public think of his response… What do you think?

Royce Da 5′9 - I’m Me - Is Royce Back?

Posted on June 19, 2008 in News

I\'m Me Royce Da 5\'9

We’ve been missing Royce for a long time now; while he usually delivers on his mixtapes, we’ve always felt like he could do better. Well, now, it looks like he’s finally stepping back up and trying to take back the game with his latest mixtape, The Bar Exam volume 2.

It’s not been dropped just yet, but the first track we’ve heard is one of the dopest Royce tracks we’ve heard in a while - if you hadn’t guessed by the title of the track, Royce rhymes over the Lil Wayne joint “I’m Me” - and he kills Waynes version.

Don’t take our word for it - listen to it for yourself.
